I started TMS therapy about 3 weeks ago. My anxiety was really bad and my provider offered me to try Alpha Stim therapy. I agreed to try it and I was supposed to start it last week. I came in for my appointment to get the treatment they took my vitals and then I didn't get the treatment. They told me I would start next week but they haven't said a word since then. I went to the Alpha Stim website and found I could get an online appointment to buy the device. The thing is I don't know what to do… read more

That frustration is completely valid — being promised a treatment and then left in silence is genuinely upsetting, especially when managing depression and anxiety is already so hard.

Here's a way to think through this:

Talk to the facility first

Before purchasing anything independently, it's worth having a direct conversation with your provider. You don't need to be confrontational — just honest. Something like:

- "I was expecting to start Alpha Stim last week — can you update me on where things stand?"
- "If there's a delay, can you explain why?"
- "I've been looking into getting the device myself — would that be something you could support or guide me on?"

Why this matters before buying independently

- Your provider can help ensure the device settings are appropriate for your specific needs
- Using it alongside TMS should be monitored by someone who knows your treatment plan
- Insurance coverage could be affected if you go outside your care team

Writing it down can help

If speaking up feels hard, consider sending a message through their patient portal or writing down what you want to say beforehand. That way emotions don't get in the way of getting answers.

You absolutely deserve clear communication about your own care. Advocating for yourself isn't being difficult — it's being your own best supporter. 💙

Hi Sandy, I'm really sorry that this has happened to you . . I think you should contact your provider who was behind the TMS for you and then offered or referred you to the Alpha Stim therapy to see if he or she can help you . . With your feelings about all of this and your fear that you wouldn't be too diplomatic with this facility at this point which is only understandable, I think that it makes a lot of sense for your provider to reach out and try to help you get things straightened out . . I would say to wait on purchasing that device at the moment . . Somebody at that facility probably dropped the ball as I see it . . That is not good, obviously, nor is it typical or expected from a patient's perspective! . . My best peace and love to you . . Please feel free to message me anytime, Sandy . . Sam . .

Unfortunately there isn't anyone else. I live in the state that has little resources. However I am going to try the alpha stim. I hope it works.
