I have been treated for depression associated with the grieving process and also with chronic illness journey
I have a question for you all, please! I have a friend who has suffered from bi-polar, schizoaffective disease due to brain damage caused by a rare genetic disorder. She had suffered a lot and gone through a scary time. Something that amazes me about her is that as long as she takes her medicine she is able to work, volunteer, and labor at home, etc...with good stamina.… read more
I can only speak for Bipolar not the other illness. That being said the manic experience can seem wonderful at the beginning. You can get things done and even think of things other that those things and get those done. Trouble is it can turn severe where a person is spending $ they don't have; not sleeping and other reactions too. It really isn't the fun some people think it is. You need sleep and you can't spend too too much $. As an observer it would just seem that the person has a lot of energy and gets things done. The observer doesn't see the inner struggle that goes on. Sometimes I question myself: Am I manic or just getting things done? When you do something entirely off character that's when an observer might notice. It depends on your friends. I hope this helps. I've written a poem about it. I can try to find it for you. Let me know if you have any questions. Annie
@A MyDepressionTeam Member Hmmm a couple of things...I count how many pills I take at night. And even to me it seems alarming. But I guess I need all those pills to appear "normal" It amazes me. But no one knows. It just takes all those pills to keep me stable. I don't know how your friend stays so "busy" see the mania only lasts so long. And then you are left with the normal. No longer appearing to be supernatural. IDK I think for me anyway - I tend to not be manic. I tend to be depressed more (I think that is why I've been on this site for so long). And the depression I feel after being manic is far worse than what one would consider "regular depression" Because being manic makes you feel invincible and then all of a sudden, your depressed. Anyways that's what I think right now. I hope some of this helps you understand what it's like to be Bipolar. I wish people asked more questions about this...
Yea, discuss the symptoms and hopefully dr will address it If it's not something to trealt with meds. They will look at all sides of the issue.
It sounds to me like restlessness, but IMO not manic. I am not trained by the DSM!!!lol
I take depakote, abilify, and benztropine for daily meds. Clonidine for a prn insomnia med. Each doctor will work the patient/person.
