Members responding to a post about struggling with binge eating disorder and caregiving came together to share that they are not alone, with many describing their own long histories with eating disorders dating back to childhood. Several members opened up about the added challenges of medication-driven appetite changes, using food for control or emotional relief, and feeling dismissed or misunderstood by doctors and therapists who minimized their struggles. A recurring theme was frustration with the mental healthcare system alongside deep community warmth, with members offering personal connection and reassurance that this space is safe and non-judgmental.

Granted, every therapist isn't trained to recognize eating disorders, but the first guy I saw watched me drop 50 lbs in 6 months and never said a word. He called it "adjustment to adulthood disorder."

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I was not taken seriously because I have BED. It's kinda funny the comments doctors have made have actually caused more harm than help but whatever. I'm sorry we're in the same situation. I've definitely felt better after posting

@A MyDepressionTeam Member yea I know but I'm old enough to know that the ED is about control and it makes me feel better. In ways when I don't eat I feel better than when I binge so that helps as well.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member yea it's the same with me, but also with boredom. That's what drives me crazy I don't have an appetite but I have BED. It's the worst thing.

I've had eating disorders since childhood. Right now I'm struggling with binging, and the increase in appetite from my medication isn't helpful

Dear Kaye, I can relate, have had eating disorders since about 11, I know how painful it can be, but you are not alone. And you are much more important than any number on the scale.
