Members shared a wide range of approaches to managing sciatica nerve damage, with many emphasizing that relief often requires a combination of strategies tailored to individual needs. Several members found help through physical therapy exercises, spinal cord stimulators offering 75-90% pain relief, cortisone or steroid injections, medications like gabapentin and NSAIDs, topical treatments like Voltaren, heating pads, and staying as physically active as possible through walking. A recurring theme was the importance of working with pain specialists or neurosurgeons, advocating for treatments that provide longer-lasting relief, and maintaining hope and determination even when pain feels overwhelming.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member, John, I had a FADE (fusion and discectomy) at C6-C7 to relieve left arm pain. Facet injections and radio frequency ablations only lasted a couple of months. The neurosurgeon had to go in through the front of my neck to access the affected area of the spinal column and discs. I have a barely noticeable scar above my collarbone, but I woke with no pain in the left arm whatsoever.

If the MD is knowledgeable and skilled, treatment should be uncomplicated. Osteoarthritic changes are more than normal as we age, like Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones said in "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Honey, it ain't the years, it's the mileage."

@A MyDepressionTeam Member, my recommendation is to seek the services of a neurosurgeon who can offer a spinal cord stimulator. I've had mine for 4 years and I still get 75%-85% relief on a continual basis. This allows me to keep physically active, within tolerance levels.
