Members opened up about how they cope with thoughts of suicide, sharing deeply personal strategies rooted in love, mindfulness, and self-advocacy. Several members described focusing on their children and grandchildren as a reason to keep going, while others found strength in recognizing that a suicidal thought is just a thought, letting it pass like a cloud without acting on it. A recurring theme was the importance of reaching out for help without shame, whether by hospitalizing oneself when needed, telling a doctor, or leaning on community support during the darkest moments.

For me it comes down to knowing it is just a thought. I have suicide idealization and I read and research and a quote from a book called Be Happy Anyways which stated it is not about controlling the thoughts that come to your mind, it is knowing that a thought is just a thought and in knowing that has been a source of dealing with it.

I put myself directly in the hospital. I have twenty one hospital stays as of right now from the past sixteen years. I have no shame.I'm not afraid to talk about it and people are to welcome to think I'm crazy but I will put myself in the hospital every time.If that's what it takes for my children to have their mother in their lives and not leave them behind as if they weren't enough.

As quickly as they appear, they disappear if I let them. Instead of their frightening me now, there's a "yeah, whatever," and I go about the business of my day. Best wishes, Katherine. 🌺

I wait for them to pass. I do not indulge them nor consider them logical. They are nothing more than a thought, a concept, like a cloud floating across the sky. I let them float away….(man I got to stop watching those Bob Ross marathons)
