How has your patriotism manifested in your life?
This is a I do but kinda don’t situation. I’m proud to be American don’t get me wrong, it’s just the current leadership isn’t on my favorite list. We could definitely do worse, but we can do way better…like way way better. That’s just my opinion tho.
What has been happening to our country, to the immigrants, to the people that have been targeted because they stood up for what is right, to the white house itself, the Kennedy Center, to the anniversary celebration as it should have been... this has all contributed to the depression that I have been fighting. When I read or watch the news about what is going on I feel that storm in my chest come back. I feel better when I don't watch the news but I also feel like I need to know what is going on. I tell you, when I saw the video of the protesters marching in a line and then the other side marching through... it made me think of war. That really scares me. I disagree with what the AI summery said above. This does directly affect my emotional health.
I didn't really celebrate. I was thinking about the colors of the flag and what they represent. "White: Represents purity and innocence. It symbolizes the moral ideals, honesty, and high principles upon which the nation was founded." from www.gettysburgflag.com/american-flag-symbolism On this July 4th, I sat outside and thought about this and how this is not so true at the current moment. I hope we can claw back what we have lost because of the craziness going on at the moment. I do not feel like I could wear a flag pin right now and that makes me sad.
@A MyDepressionTeam Member the story I'm writing right now is set in America 1776- the original No Kings Protest! I didn't do much to celebrate Independence Day this year, but I'm proud of who we were & who we will be when this dark period is over!
Fire, you are correct on separating the current versus the big picture. Glad you distinguish the two.
