Have you ever felt like depression held you back from opportunities?
Yes, many people with depression share this experience. Depression can make it incredibly difficult to take advantage of opportunities, even ones that could be really good for you.
One MyDepressionTeam member described having an interview for their dream job but trying to find a way out of it. Depression can drain your confidence and make even exciting opportunities feel overwhelming or impossible to pursue.
The lack of motivation and energy that comes with depression is a real barrier. Members describe struggling just to get dressed or leave the house, let alone pursue new opportunities. When your desire to try is gone, it's hard to take those important steps forward.
Depression can also affect work performance and relationships, which sometimes means missing out on career advancement or social connections. The fear of saying the wrong thing or not feeling good enough can hold you back from reaching out or putting yourself out there.
It's part of the daily struggle with depression, but remember that it's the illness creating these barriers, not a personal failure. Seeking support and treatment can help you start reclaiming those opportunities.

Yes I do recall a major event. My best friend who I grew up with celebrated her marriage anniversary. I was in a deep depression. I didn't share my situation back at that time. I didn't attend. I just stayed quiet. It took years to forgive myself. It took even more sharing with her. I was so ashamed of not doing anything.
