In What Ways, If Any, Has Your Depression Affected How You Consume Alcohol?
It may give one an escape from anxiety or depression for a very short while but then it's back with vengeance
I rarely drink because alcohol is a depressant. And I'm too old to handle a hangover! I'll have an occasional drink, b-day, New Year. 😃
Alcohol 🍺 was a quick fix for me with terrible results
I used to drink alcohol a lot and too much. This was at a time before I was in regular therapy and taking medication. I realized that it was doing only bad for me and I completely cut out alcohol over 15 years ago. I still won't even drink a beer. It would put me right on my butt.😁
My depression led me to becoming an alcoholic, I used to drink almost everyday, mostly to cope with my depression and it often helped. My dependence on alcohol however, led me to making a lot of bad choices, life-altering choices. Currently, I've been clean and sober for at least 4 months, that is mostly because I just had back surgery 4 months ago and I don't want to risk any setbacks in my recovery. I haven't had any cravings or urges for alcohol for at least a few months now and I feel really good about that, I thought that I would never be able to stop drinking, I was convinced I would die an alcohol-related death. Somehow I overcame that addiction and I feel proud of myself for doing so. Now I rely on meds, talk therapy and exercise to cope with my mental health issues.
