My Son Suffers From Social Anxiety And Does Not Go Out Of His Room And He’s 18
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 18 and was bullied at school from age 14 he suffers from social anxiety and is doing an IT online course as he found Coll too hard to deal with. He does his course online and speaks to friends when gaming but does not go out.
How can I help him get his confidence and start going out?

I suffer from anxiety and depression too so I’m struggling at the moment with him 😕

Bullying can affect your self esteem big time an the effects last a long time. I have social anxiety also an I still deal with it I’m 61 but better than I use to be. Therapy is always helpful

It's good that your son has you. You understand what he's going through. My dad didn't understand. When I stopped working my dad thought I was lazy and didn't want to work. I wish I could work. I'd have a lot more money. But I couldn't hold down a job for very long. I always got laid off or let go because my depression and anxiety effected my job performance and attendance.

It’s not so straight forward as he’s not my sons father and my son does not want his dad to know anything so I’m stuck in the middle and don’t know what to do for the best as I love them both

Yes I would love to do it together and getting him out would be a start. My husband just thinks he’s lazy and does not understand so I feel pulled both ways and my anxiety gets worse
