I self harm when I've had such a bad day I can't handle the resulting emotions. The physical pain distracts and centres me. I know it's unhealthy but haven't the energy to start a new one even if I knew what to do!

Members opened up about self-harm, sharing deeply personal reasons including emotional overwhelm, self-hatred, and the need to feel present when emotions become too intense. Several members shared coping alternatives that have helped them, such as holding ice, snapping a rubber band on the wrist, coloring, and squeezing frozen items as ways to redirect pain. A recurring theme was the weight of shame, hiding scars from loved ones, and the hope of finding healthier outlets, with members offering each other compassion and encouragement along the way.

I stopped because i care too much about what people think of me plus i love my body (shallow, i know) but its the only thing i have going for me. I don't see how beautiful i am and don't believe it when people say i am. To answer your question, i did it because i couldn't put in words what i was feeling. And emotional pain is much worse than physical pain. I can't handle the things i feel. Cutting is letting them out in a way.

I work in care I 've supported people who have self harmed. Struggled to understand till I recently did myself. Gets me "back I the room" Like you know it's not a long term answer and try hard not too. Take care
