What's The Difference?
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I went to the dr today wanting something for anxiety, i feel anxious, pressure in my head, and my nerves are shot. He told me anxiety was like being chased by a tiger and my heart rate wasnt up so i didnt have anxiety. Anxiety or stress, aren't they both treated the same way? He told me I had stress. I'm just curious and it kinda upset me that he wouldn't even listen or consider giving me anything BC my heart rate wasn't up.

Sorry to tell you this, but most doctors don't take their patients seriously. (or at least that's been my experience) Stress and anxiety are different, but they tend to go together and one can lead to another. A doctor of all people should know that anxiety symptoms present themselves differently in different people. My advice would be to not go back to them because they seem shallow and moronic. Try to find a compassionate care provider. You will definitely be able to tell the difference.

It's very common for doctors to dismiss female patients level of seriousness. I'd look for a new doctor, specifically a female. a heads up is don't undermine your feelings. Don't undertell your experiences. The doctor can only go off of what you tell them. My doctor does not take my illness as serious as it is (and I'm on the highest dosage of my meds) because I always undermine myself out of embarrassment of admitting what I'm truly feeling.

There not the same and with anxiety your heart rate does increase. A lot in my case. It races so fast I start sweating profusely. He still should have given you a trial period. IS this a. Psychiatrist
