Prozac
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I take the generic form (Fluxetine) of Prozac. I have been on this for years. I believe this medication makes me lazy, tired all the time. I blame this med for my weight gain and lack of energy. Is this common for this med? I hear Wellbutrin is much better, and actually helps in losing weight and gives you more energy. Is this true?

I found both Prozac and Wellbutrin to be energizing meds and I lost weight on both of them. I was unable to stay on Prozac because of side effects that never resolved and the Wellbutrin dealt only partially with the depression.
There is a difference between the brand-name and generic form of Wellbutrin.
The brand-name worked better for me.

Wellbutrin was given to me in combination with celexa and I felt great. I could not take generic celexa however and my insurance stopped paying for the name brand. Dr put me on prozac and eventually added the wellbutrin but it was not the same. I honestly believe it is different for everyone. Like I said, I was given generic celexa and was out of town at a conference, I had a major panic attack and locked myself in my room the entire week so different fillers in what is supposed to be the same medication can have adverse effects. I
It made me very nervous when I took it another anti-depressant but it was XR prescription so that may have something to do with it. I am currently on Lexapro (generic) and it has not helped my energy level or fatigue at all.

Yes fluoxetine also made me feel lazy, tired all the time and put weight on. I want to try wellbutrin too but in the uk its only used to help people stop smoking which is a pity
