I ponder a lot, wondering if both have things in common as far as mental or emotional disorders... does that strengthen their bond or love for each other or destroy it?

My hubby and I both have mental/emotional issues... He suffers with PTSD and mild depression, I have major depressive and anxiety. We are each other’s strongest support.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member my husband suffers from depression and GAD, I suffer from major depressive disorder, PTSD, GAD, and. social anxiety. We have been together everyday since the day we met and just got married in May.

I think for us, knowing we both suffer from mental disorders help us to understand one another better and we know how to support one another when the other is down. It depends on the relationship and the people, for my husband and I our sickness is one of our greatest common bonds because we completely relate and understand one another :)

I think it depends, but in general, it seems to me that if you both have issues, you could be a great support for each other. It might even make things easier, because you would understand each other and could relate to what the other person is going through.

It entirely depends on the strength of the people in the situation. If they can carry on throughout whatever life throws at them while holding their significant others hand, then yes, a relationship can thrive. That’s the beauty of love. It can grow in any condition.

Don't let your illnesses destroy your marriage. My illness destroy my marriage. He was also controlling. In any relationship if one is up and the other is down those are difficult times. Keep working at it and it will work.
