Every antidepressant I've been on makes me feel very sedated and unwilling to move my body much, which means I don't do the running and cycling and working out that I used to and I put weight on. I used to do sport to make me feel better mentally, but on the drugs I'm limited in what I can do. Just wanted to ask others if they experience these side effects or if I just have to accept this as a price to pay for feeling more stable..
Angie, I had a lot of problems with energy and meds, especially Effexor. I started on Lexapro, 20mg 6 months ago and it helped a bit. My doc added the mood stabilizer, Lamictal, and after only a week I was starting to feel really good. He started me out at 25mg and I went up to 50mg after two weeks and was able to stop there. The dose for depression can go as high as 200mg. The 50 did it for me though:) I've been on it for 3 months now and am not depressed anymore. Haven't felt this good in 10 years. I have my life back. Neither of those drugs make me tired. Maybe at first but for a short time. I take 1mg of klonopin in the morning for my anxiety and 2mg at night to stop my anxiety and my mind racing.
FORTHELOVEOFDARKNESS, ya, can you believe it!!! That combo of meds really killed my appetite. I have to try to only put healthy things into my body so I'm getting enough nutritious foods!! Multivitamin for sure!
I was once on Stellazine and that made it impossible to do much of anything. The doctor knew I was an athlete and put me on it anyway. I had horrible side affects with the drug Angie. What I take now does not interfere with exercise. In fact, I never had trouble with any of the medicine I was on to keep me from running and cycling competitively. I am also on the only medicine I can tolerate which is Trazadone and Zoloft and Clonazapam and Buspirione.
Hi Angie254, I am older now - so slower than in my 30's, 40's or 50's .. but I still can walk rings around younger women. I usually have a slump in the Fall or winter. ( no - it's not season affective syndrome ) I have gone on anti-depressants or upped my dosages over the winter [ sometime worked - others times the meds put me in a bit of a fog .. which doesn't lead to wanting to do much in the way of exercise] . This winter I joined a gym near my apartment. Sometimes I didn't feel much like getting moving in the mornings. But once I got there .. my mood after using the yoga studio, and resistance machines had me feeling much improved.
