Members responded to a question about dangerous memory lapses by sharing striking personal experiences linked to depression, bipolar disorder, medications, and blackouts. Several members described frightening moments, including rushing barefoot into a car accident without realizing they were injured, experiencing blackouts while driving, and unknowingly taking the wrong medication while on Stilnox. A recurring theme was the importance of speaking with a doctor, with members encouraging one another to seek medical advice, brain scans, and healthy habits like sleep and diet to help manage these episodes.

I'm really worried I've had a car accident or even more than one. On more than one occasion I've had a bit of a blackout when driving. I guess I need to ask my doctor about it.....hopefully soon I might have a brain scan to see if there's anything going on in my brain. Until then I've still got to get to work so I guess I just need to really concentrate when driving....one of the occasions I was with my mum so I really should have asked my mum what happened but unfortunately I can't now as she passed away 16 years ago. All I remember was her saying what are you doing? And feeling rather confused. And noticing a sports car doing crazy zig zags. If there was an accident I'm so sorry if anyone was killed or injured but I think it was probably just an accident I can't see anyone was to blame. I hadn't been drinking or anything but like I say I might have had a bit of a blackout so I do need to see my doctor about it. Thank you for listening to my concerns......i promise I'll get the doctors advice....g

Yes just the other day. There was a very severe wreck at the end of my driveway and when I heard it I jumped off my bed and when I landed I was at the end of my driveway no shoes no coat freezing cold. The car was on fire didn't care yelled for roommate to get something to put fire out. I held that young mans hand until the police and EMUS got there. Everyone kept trying to get me away from the vehicle but the young man was really hurt and scared I was going no where. When police got there and chased me off I realized what everyone wanted me to move. I was stand in some kind of hot fluid that burnt the bottom of my feet bad. The young man bleed all over me. I was all cut up because the window got broken in the crash and I didn't know it.

ECT treatment is too scary for me...its meant to kill brain neurons and rewire brain activity. Im sorry that there wasnt an alternative to you.
