I am at the early stage of my research but I have found one or two articles that propose this is a valid consideration.
Since moving from the coast 1000 km in land my levels of depression and anxiety have increased though not in isolation to certain events that may have been the catalyst.
Lower oxygen intake has to compromise the affect on the synapse transactions in our brains.

Any comments on this?

I have always had a hard time with touch,sound, and over stimulation of my senses. I thought it was because I was prematurely born at seven months. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia many years ago. The pain is unbearable at times and touching really hurts add to that my chronic dizziness and migraines I would be hard to live with if my husband of 40 years wasn't so understanding. My life is hard but somehow I seen to thrive even on my worst days. Relax as much as possible and cut yourself some slack. Sending you prayers and support.

I think it is quite possible that there is a connection. However, it's very difficult to isolate from other reasons such as just the shock of the change in scenery, the sadness of moving, etc. It'd be interesting if there was more research done on the topic, especially since this may become an issue in the future when people start living in space for longer periods of time.

Interesting question, wasn't there a study done on rats that proved that female rats showed more depressive symptoms than male rats when subjected to higher altitudes, due to the fact that female mammals produce less serotonin than their male counterparts?
