Members responded with empathy to the question about finding group therapy for depression in rural areas, with many sharing that such groups are hard to come by outside of addiction-focused meetings. Several members suggested reaching out to local county mental health centers, hospitals, and NAMI, which offers virtual group options that some found helpful. A recurring theme was the shared frustration of feeling overlooked by the mental health system, paired with a warm reminder from the community that no one has to face depression alone.

It comes down to money, and interest. If your community is big enough to have a mental health advocacy group, you likely will have meetings etc. I was sent to AA to sit in their meetings. Even though everyone was nice and accepting, i really didnt have a story about alcohol, so i did feel a bit awkward, especially after some of the stories those AA member told. But i would call your local hospital and see if they knew of anything.

I don’t know where you live and I’m not sure if there are group therapy sessions in my area either. I don’t know if you’re aware that people from this site are planning group conference calls I believe starting in September. I plan to try to join in.

I’d just like to find a group of people who understood what the depression is like.

I've noticed that as well. Not able to find any support groups for depression.

The only thing I know of is Nami. I live in a small city so there is a Nami virtual group. I have found that to be helpful but I am envious of the areas that have a local group.
