I want to say this carefully
Tony Gwynn is my hero
Tony was an All-Star outfielder for the San Diego Padres.
I was listening to Jack Buck's (from KMOX) Feature on a Saturday morning.
I remember that I was changing my sheets in the 90s.
He did more than recite statistics, even though they were mighty impressive.
Jack told of how Tony, despite being the best hitter and fielder on the team.
He was always the first one at the ballpark.
He studied film before anyone looked at films.

Members shared a wide range of personal heroes in response to the question about life inspirations, including athletes like Tony Gwynn and Michael Jordan, beloved family members like grandmothers and grandpas, and public figures like Maya Angelou and Dr. Marsha Linehan. Several members described how their inspirations helped them push through hardship, with stories of resilient grandmothers surviving loss and the Depression, a self-taught grandfather full of creativity and warmth, and a mother who became a best friend after reconciliation. A recurring theme was that inspiration can come from anywhere, and that the people who modeled strength, determination, and love left the deepest marks.

I know I shouldn't look up to anyone and have self-validation. So, I'll say inspirational instead! And my inspiration is Dr. Marsha Linehan, who herself, was in a psych unit and then created a treatment for herself and now used around the world and for those not diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I now look to apply to the graduate school whereshe completed her fellowship: Stoneybrook University of the SUNY system.

I learned from afar that we both had the same favorite color and we both had stationary with the same bible verse printed on it. Philippians 4:13. We both ordered personalized stationery from different places but both had our first initial on the front in blue and that same verse. She loved that. I only wish she hadn't given me her flat chest. 🟦v🟦

That sounds *exactly* like the type of woman my Sicilian Great-Grandmother, Virginia Fucetelo. I knew she loved us kids, but we were always scared to go over. She just had that Mother Superior vibe going on...

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I'm like you and didn't really have many positive people around me. My grandmother that I mentioned was so far away and it was too expensive to call. I was only allowed an occasional stamp and sometimes my letters from her had one tucked inside for me to use. She was my brightest light and I think I idealized her when I was a child. My sister spent summers with her on their farm and she said our grandmother was kinda mean and demanding but she still loved her a lot. The few times I saw her she was very stern and she was definitely in charge. The men around her took a step back and I think that's what I respected about her. She had a commanding personality and was remembered and well loved by all. I'm not like that. I did take after her in some ways so I'll appreciate the gifts I got from her and her love.
