Have I sold you on getting a journal to write down those memories?
Or if you get depressed (and who doesn't?)
On a good day write down good things like the smell of fresh clothes or whatever.
Share as many things as you can.
On bad day read what you wrote before to turn your day around.
Try that.
It was always this simple.

I used to write the fiction to divert attention from moods. I did some as therapy to get 'revenge' on those that I feel wronged me. I've been discriminated against in part for mental illness. So therapeutic measures leave me laughing rather than embittered.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member I wish I had thought of that. Must've helped.

When my mom died I wrote her letters. I actually had a blog that I made visible only to me and my siblings. I made it so any one of us could post to it but I was the only one that did. My siblings said it helped them just reading my letters and seeing the pictures. I wrote some poems, posted some song lyrics or links to music videos. I didn't have a very close relationship with her but I wanted to. She just couldn't talk to me without criticizing everything I did. She couldn't accept me as I am and that I decided to make my own decisions for my life and my children. Then she died suddenly and there was so much I never got to say. I did get a little bit closer when she was sick. I sent her flowers and that surprised her. She didn't think I could send her flowers in Georgia from Alaska. I just googled the closest flowers shop to her and had them take her a get well bouquet with a balloon. That changed things a bit. Anyway, it did help me a lot to just write out what I was feeling as if she could really read them.

I write in a journal from time to time but I usually forget about it. When I was depressed I didn't like to write but I tried sometimes. I tried to think of positive things but it was difficult. If it turns into a rant I just write it all out and rip out the page and throw it away. It still helps to just get it out. My son just bought me a really nice dot journal he saw that was this shade of green that I love. I'm trying to think of how I want to use it but I'm starting with a list of books I've read this year.
