I haven't seen a doctor for a bit over 5 years now & I'm so anxious already about how I'll be treated about how long it's been considering my age & ALL the issues I need help with. Is it normal to have jump thru hoops & filling out over a 2 page application? I just really need to see a doc. Thank you

The paperwork requirements are standard practice, especially for new patients. The detailed forms help doctors understand your complete health history and provide better care. Here are some practical steps to make the process easier:

• Call ahead to ask what paperwork is required - this helps you prepare
• Consider asking if forms can be filled out online or before the appointment
• Remember that primary care doctors are often the first point of contact for mental health support
• Be honest about your anxiety with the office staff - they're used to helping nervous patients

Most Americans see their primary care doctor at least once a year, so they're experienced in welcoming back patients who haven't visited in a while.

I totally get it. From a patient point of view and a Dr. office point of view. Oh and a care taker point of view.

I'm always nervous when I have to see a new Dr. I have a little known birth deffect so I have to go through that every time as few dr's know about it. Maybe take a friend with you for support. I've done that before. Or I have several worry stones I will take one of those with me.

It's even worse for me this time bc I haven't seen any type of a doc in about 5 years. I have mental health issues that needed to be addressed & now I'm beyond overwhelmed & I'm disabled with chronic pain, haven't seen a PCP in so long I'm nothing but a bundle of nerves stuck on the ceiling 😫 🙄 And to top all that off, everything was stolen from me except for my life, literally so no ID, can't prove who I am! So many irons in the fire & not from here so I feel so lost literally & figuratively. LoL, sorry for comment bombing u. Your comment about the doc appt & feeling nervous when seeing a new doc felt like I was reading a comment by someone who really understands & I moved right on it 😅 🙃
I appreciate being able to correspond with someone who gets it😉
