I think situational depression can be overcome if it's recognized and treated properly and early enough before it sets in and makes a permanent home. The problem is that we don't take it seriously as a culture until it interferes in a big way with our functioning. Then it becomes chronic.

But as to diet and exercise, absolutely yes. Seratonin development is enhanced by them.

I've been under treatment for depression and anxiety for nearly 36 years. In the past 3.5 years, I've lost 125 pounds: 344 to 219. I still have a bit to go to hit my goal.

Exercise and diet cured me of diabetes; A1C went from 6.6 two years ago to 5.1 in May.

Physically, I feel better and can do more.

Not trying to be rude, contrary or offensive in any way. I don't believe depression can be cured. The symptoms can be alleviated to certain extent. The dark will always be there, it's a commitment to get through the rough patches you have to make for yourself.

So it's 50/50, diet and exercise motivate you to feel better and want to do more, but, and I probably suck for thinking this way, once you're depressed, you've got a buddy for life.
