Oh wow this is a toughie. I went through it, too. My withdrawls(which they called secondary) lasted 8 months. I went to a counselor who specifically was an addiction counselor. He was a Godsend. Call around and ask for an addiction.counelor. I also had a good support system. Family, coworkers. I.also went to 12step groups. They really helped with my sanity. Also, self-care is important. I'm here if you need to talk.

That’s a difficult one to answer. Addiction is usually a symptom that drives depression, man may disagree but many addiction becomes a symptom of mental health issues. I speak from experience, I used to drink in order to numb the depression.
When I was told that the alcohol was damaging my liver, it scared me, it wasn’t easy but I gave up drinking and found that my depression was much easier to live with. Plus my liver has fixed itself so that was a big win.
