Need Recommendations On Psychologist In My Area?
Hello everyone,
How can I stop my thoughts that I would be better off taking my own life and I would be free of my mental pain. I need help finding a psychiatrist and therapist to help me.
Psychology Today has a website that lists information and photos of the mental health professionals in your area. I think they approve the ones they list. I found it very helpful. The key is to be prepared to stand up for yourself if you do not feel you are being helped enough or properly. Trust your instincts. I was treated for 10 years by a psychiatrist who misdiagnosed me with bipolar when the problem was always chronic major depression. Thus the medication probably wasn't always appropriate, but since none of it worked anyway, that's behind me. In addition, he was not at all empathetic or even that supportive. I was stuck due to hopelessness and inertia. I wish I changed to someone else one of the many times it occurred to me. Even more importantly, find a therapist who you really relate to, who has some enthusiasm about his or her job and has a plan of action, right from the beginning. My therapist is far more helpful than any medication I ever took, but each person has their own experience. Good luck and best wishes!
If you have medical insurance call them and they can give you a list of resources in your area.
