Members shared the profound struggle of daily life with depression, describing a common pattern of extreme fatigue, difficulty getting out of bed, sleeping for extended hours, and cycling between forcing themselves through tasks and giving up entirely. Several members offered strategies that have helped them cope, including maintaining routines or schedules even when motivation is absent, caring for pets or loved ones as a forcing mechanism to stay active, practicing self-compassion and gratitude, engaging in small achievable tasks, staying busy through work or hobbies, using medication as a foundation, seeking therapy, exercising (especially walking), meditating, journaling, listening to music, and leaning on faith or spiritual practices. A recurring theme was the isolating weight of feeling misunderstood by others who see depression as a choice rather than a debilitating illness, the exhausting effort of masking pain to appear functional, and the importance of self-acceptance, community support, and taking each day one moment at a time without judgment.

When I’m depressed, I have zero energy. I just want to lay around and I have no desire to do my daily duties ! I’m miserable and I hate when I’m like this . I push myself to get one thing done a day. ! πŸ’œ

Low energy. No motivation. Going though the motions. Not truly living life.
