Members responded to a question about ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) with a mix of personal experiences, ranging from those who had never tried it to those who have had over 100 treatments. Several members who underwent ECT shared that it meaningfully reduced their depression, especially after many medications had failed, though some noted anxiety remained a challenge. A recurring theme was that ECT worked best as part of a broader approach including medication, good sleep, and self-awareness, with one member describing it as a lifesaver after years of struggle.

Yes, first time in February. I had 4 treatments while in the hospital. I checked myself in. I feel better than I have in years. I think it is a combination of the ECT, change and increase in meds, and things I learned in group. First time I actually paid attention in group. Lol. I was incredibly anxious with the first one, fear of the unknown I guess. I had very little memory loss and felt pretty normal. Well, my normal anyway. Ha! I stopped at 4 because I lost my job while in the hospital. I was rehired finally and have insurance again. Will start the treatments again in a week or two. ECT has literally been a lifesaver.

I have had many treatments, they helped me a lot. I still needed to do other things too. Good sleep, decent nutrition, know your happy place, know who and what to avoid, stick to your meds, roll with the punches. None of those things are easy but worth sticking to. I sound like a know it all, I assure you that I am not. 31yrs I’ve been at it and still have many struggles. Peace, love

Yes. I have completed 20 treatments. I think it lessened my depression but I’m still terribly anxious
