How do you work through your own guilt and living with shame?
I used to try and justify the things I did and the people I've wronged. That didn't really work. I've also tried to make amends to people, but they didn't always accept it or forgive me. The only thing I could do is try to be a better person and not to make the same mistakes.
Hi sweety. This topic came up when talking to my counselor this afternoon. I told him that I know God has forgiven me for everything I've asked him to, but the problem is I'm having trouble doing the same. He asked me if that was okay with God as he takes that as I don't trust him. Once we ask for forgiveness for whatever sin, small or large, God forgives, forgets immediately and we need to do the same. Easy? No. Possible? Absolutely. I've been dealing with an abortion that was out of my control at the age of 16 for all these years. Something else I had to accept that if God has forgiven me, I need to do the same. I'm still working on it, but I've gotten better and one day, I will forgive myself. I hope you can do the same. We can't change our pasts but we sure can make "Now" the best we can. Please don't be so hard on yourself. Let Go and Let God as is written. Sending you safe hugs!!
Go out and do something that makes you proud
Honestly, guilt and shame are part of everyday life. It's a "normal" reaction. I would look at the context of why you feel that way, and perhaps seek medical help to assist you to deal with it in a better way. Maybe write a "feelings" diary.
I talk to my pastors.
