Can any of you recommend good self-help books for depression (and possibly anxiety)? I can't afford actual face-to-face therapy rn but I wanna start working on getting better regardless, and I thought I'd give books a go.
Maybe you can look up a book called "Mind over Mood"? It's a recommended study for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy😊
The Noonday Demon by Andrew Solomon. It’s more of a memoir/personal gathering of stories from other people suffering from depression than “self-help” per se, but I found it helpful. Solomon is a masterful writer and he takes you right into the ugliness of his depression and how he found his way out. He has also done TED Talks videos.
On your question of reading self help books.
What about doing some reading online. There is a great web site called "The Mighty" - google it .. You will find some patients writing about their lives. What they have found that helps with their symptoms. Hugs, Sandra
One book that really lifts me up is called "Hindsfeet on High Places" by Hannah Hurnard (or something close to that)
It's a great story although considered fiction has really lifted me. See if the library has it. It's about a 2-3 day read.
"Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life: The New Acceptance and Commitment Therapy"
This is the self-help book I've been using to work through everything
