Friends Who Stare At Phones When You're With Them
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

This really annoys and upsets me. I'll arrange to meet up with a friend for lunch/coffee and they spend lots of time staring at their phone texting or updating Facebook. It makes me feel like I'm boring them or not important enough to give their full attention to. I make an effort to only answer my phone when its important if I'm in company. Maybe I'm old fashioned but when I'm out I want to pay attention to the other person and not my phone. Does anyone else have this problem and how do you… read more

It shows a maturity level, respect & priorities when you choose not to use your phone. It wouldn't be much fun that's for sure. Maybe you need to meet with people who also value friendships more than their phones.

Yes, I have this problem sometimes and it drives me bonkers. I usually let them know in my own way that I’m pissed.

I too put my phone on silent to enjoy the company I'm with. It's rude what you've described in your post. I love face to face company versus on the phone. But with my disorders I choose to not having many friends anyway.

Oh boy! I have a family that spends all their time on their phones and it's like we've forgotten how to communicate. Facebook has certainly destroyed family time but my parents and older sister are the worst. My sister and her family pop by every weekend and she literally sits on her phone most of the time and expects us to take care of her kids... I'm sorry but it's not on. I have also tried to make a point of not sitting on my phone and have decided that I'm going to do what Jerry said and phone them when they do that. They will most probably look at me funny but I've got to make a point somehow.

I think I'll ban cellphones from my house one day or tell people that they may only answer their phones if there is an emergency and if they won't respect my rules then they are not welcome.

I think it's so rude! If you are expecting an important call you can let them know and then when it comes in so excuse me a moment but I have to take this. Otherwise leave your phone alone. It makes the other person feel like they're not worth your attention. And again maybe I'm old-fashioned and it's the new way but I think like Jerry said their detriment to our society. Have a great Christmas everybody! I hope everyone is doing well in this crazy busy time. I know Christmas can be very difficult for some people please hang in there and know you are loved and reach out here. Many hugsπŸ’žπŸ’πŸ’–πŸ’žπŸ’πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’πŸ’ž Deborah
