Is Prozac a narcotic?

Prozac is an SSRI - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It's not an opiate or any kind of narcotic. It is based on the theory that people who are depressed don't have enough of the neurotransmitter serotonin in their brains so it prevents your brain from reabsorbing the serotonin that is there. Paxil, Prozac, Zantac, all work pretty much the same way. I'm on Effexor, which is a SSNRI -it works on two neurotransmitters: serotonin and norepinephrine, but although it's not a narcotic, it is habit-forming.

Also, all drugs are not narcotics. Asprin is a drug, after all. Here is a link that will give you the medical definition of a narcotic: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/morp...
