I see benefits in short winter days but I go outside as much as possible even in winter. I try and keep it natural as much as possible
@A MyDepressionTeam Member - I actually have been using the lightbox for years and it definately helps all year round. I just wondered if anyone else found it helpful or something to think about if you don't use it and suffer from SAD. I use it for 40 minutes now as of a couple of weeks ago I was using it for 50 minutes. I cut down cus I was beginning to experience mild mania - which is not good. It went back to normal after I cut the time down. Conversely I had increased it a couple of weeks ago when I was starting to feel mildly depressed. My doctor does *not* want to change my medicines so this is a way to increase my mood or decrease too. The effects are felt right away too. At least that is how it effects me.
Use one everyday for half hour or so, it has made a huge difference
I don't know about a light box but I have a very bright light on my desk in addition to my computer light. I'm always happy.
I got a light box this last winter at my doctor's suggestion. Though the literature that came with it said it's not to be used in people with Bipolar, my doctor told me I'd be safe to use it for 15 mins each day as close to noon as possible. I found it to be VERY effective. I did quite a bit of research on them before I bought it, so if you have more questions or want more info, let me know. I did a ton of research on them before I bought mine.
