I took Tegretol years ago for major depression because other drugs did not help... It is true that this drug is "off record" for depression, it is usually used to treat temporal lobe epilepsy. In my experience, I found this drug made me feel: severely ill overall, hearing voices, feeling delusional, and an overall feeling of malaise. I would not take it again, as I feel that the side effects outweigh the benefit. It can also be toxic to the bloodstream, and your blood needs to be tested often to be sure that you are not going to overdose. I can't remember exactly (1995), but I think I went every 90 days to have my tagretol levels checked. This is a heavy weight drug, and should be used with extreme caution for depression disorders.
