My doctor recently put me on Amitriptyline 25 mg and it has really helped my mood swings and anger issues. After taking it for 2 months, I gained almost 10 lbs. Then I read that one of it's side effects is weight gain. A couple weeks ago he increased the dosage to 100 mg. Why and how does it cause weight gain and what can I do to prevent it?
Get another opinion before you start on that heavy dosage. I have to be careful with everything I take because the cancer took my right kidney. If you already have early stages of kidney failure either get him to change your prescription or get another dr. I can't take ibuprophen or asprin because of my lack of a kidney so please don't take any chances.
Just stick to 25 mg. If it helps you
That's what I thought too. It scared me, so I'm cutting them into 1/4. That makes it 25 mg, which is what I've been taking all along. I've heard horror stories about this drug. I'm going to tell my doctor I would like to quit talking it altogether. I hate to do that because it's working better than anything else I've ever taken. Hopefully there is something else I can take that works as good without all the dangerous side effects.
100. My. That's very very high.
