Does Medication Really Help?
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've heard positive and negative things about taking medication for depression and anxiety. I'm unsure if I should get into antidepressants or not. Does it help? What are some side effects you have noticed? Would you recommend it? If yes, what kind?

if you are worried about side affects you can ask your pharmacist for an information sheet for the drug that they want to prescribe you,, however make sure they give you the full manafacture sheet not just the small info sheet that they tend to give out,, some of them will not want to give it to you for various reasons but if you are persistant they will not have any option but give it to you,, failing that there are various websites that list what is in a paticular medicine an what the potential side affects can be,

My meds have saved my life, literally. But I tried a few prescribed by my psychiatrist before one was found that worked for me. I also combined my meds with CBT to help with anxiety.

I am not going to recommend anything for you, I don't know your story. But my doctor prescribed citalopram and it has helped me a lot. It doesn't fix everything but it gives me the power to keep working on it. So for me medication has been helpful.

Yes, they help. I'm on Duloxitine for depression and xanax for anxiety. Also Venlafaxine as a boost to my Duloxitine. They all work well; sometimes your doctor has to try you on different ones to find the best medicine for you. All medications take some time to get into your body and help you, so don't get discouraged. I don't even look at the side effects page they give you from the pharmacy cause it may cause me to talk myself into one or more of them. I've only had one instance of a side effect and that was with Abilify, it cause me to have face twitching and he took me off of it.
