What Are The Little Things That Make You Happy?

People say you should focus on doing the things that make you happy when you're feeling down and depressed, little things like watching your favourite TV show or cooking your favourite meal. I personally don't know how to follow this advice at the moment because I can't think of anything that I enjoy doing or that makes me happy.

It's difficult for me as most of my life revolved round drink and drugs, raves, clubs, football, darts. So now i don't do drink or do drugs i have had to find new things to enjoy. So now i read, meditate, write play football and watch debates and comedy but i'm looking for something that excites me the old stuff used to. It's an ongoing search!

Bake a cake with a close friend, or counsellor/support worker who I trust, who help to make even washing dishes fun.

Colour in a colouring book, any, not just adult ones, some of the children's ones bring a smile to my face and are less challenging to colour.

Turn on my coloured mood lights, lava lamps etc, watching them always makes me feel better.

Playing with a yoyo, this may seem childish and silly, but it is a great happy activity that provides a good distraction that isn't too time consuming.

Water colour painting, or sketching can be very therapeutic, and help me to feel happy and relaxed, it's best in a well lit room during daylight.

Going out and taking beautiful photos at the park, river etc.

Going to a counselling session offloading/venting my feelings to someone who understands, and possibly getting comfort/a hug from my counsellor at the end of the session always helps me to feel happy, and gives me inner strength.

@A MyDepressionTeam Member It's nice to hear what everyone else enjoys doing. I think it's personal to everyone and I just have to try new things to find something I like. Hopefully as my mood picks up I'll find more pleasure in things and it'll be easier.

I like to do things that are fun for me. I am kind of a very sentimental loner so fun for me is things that make others happy and things I can do alone or with just one or two people. I like to make the kids laugh and smile. I like to color and make crafts. I like to walk at night and look at the stars. I like to swim. I like to take long drives in the country. I like to read.

I find Adult Colouring was fantastic for me. I would slow right down and concentrate creating something beautiful but what I do most of the time is zone out to my PlayStation or mix music. However, the best thing is when I call a friend or family member and say "I need a chat ey" and just get it all out. I find that highly refreshing!
