I am mainly interested in learning about the emotional regulation aspects. Again, I get the concept, but don't fully understand what it includes.
I have emotionally unstable border line personality disorder and I've tried DBT it's supposed to help me cope with my feelings better in the way that it teaches me how to understand my feelings and emotions, as you know our ups and downs are severe compared to the average persons highs and lows of daily life. What I learned was how to cope with these feelings better and to understand why and not to block them but to actually roll with them, experience them and control them.
(Easier said than done ! )
Can I ask if you have ever self harmed or tried to take your own life? I don't need an answer but a lot of BPD sufferers had experienced this as I have,
and DBT helped me to get on top of it,
I've been 4 weeks now without hurting myself which is a new record for me.
I would say go to the sessions with an open mind and heart and I hope you get something out of it as I did.
CBT didn't work for me and I've tried many counsellors and therapists. I'm happy to say that the guy I'm seeing now is excellent and I'm doing well. You will too my friend im sure of it

@A MyDepressionTeam Member Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm so tired of this prison.
DBT and CBT didn't work for me... but I can see where it could for others. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Taught myself and it cost me a lot less than paying for therapy sessions. The first book is called "The Happiness Trap" by Dr. Russ Harris. If the DBT doesn't work for you, the concepts in ACT are easy to understand and apply. I know that doesn't answer your question on DBT, but it's an alternative therapy - I read "ACT on life not on anger" as well, to help me with my borderline personality disorder.
