Have you ever ghosted someone? I’m in a dilemma. A little history. Many many years ago I met a friend on MDT. We emailed each other for a long time. We only met face to face a few times. She became very ill and suffered greatly before passing. She had a brother she was very close to. After she passed he asked me if I would help him with his grief. We’ve texted for a couple of years now. I’ve made it clear I was not interested in any romantic. Well, he calls me his best friend and… read more

Members rallied around a question about ghosting a man who texts multiple times daily, with most agreeing that being direct and honest about not wanting to continue the friendship is the kindest first step before blocking him. Several members emphasized that setting firm boundaries is an act of self-protection, not rudeness, and that responding only with emojis still keeps the door open. The conversation grew into a heartfelt exchange about being conditioned to ignore personal limits, estranged children, and finding courage to put oneself first.

Whenever you meet new people always set boundaries and please tell the truth at all times. Always set goals and expectations with everyone that you meet throughout your life!!!

You have to be honest and truthful as well as set boundaries with everyone you meet throughout your life. It protects you from all harm. I would start things off by telling the truth and letting everyone know exactly how you feel. Therefore always keep it real with God and Jesus Christ as well as to other people and yourself.

No, Jodi, not "ghosting," you're protecting yourself from unneeded emotional stress or hurt. I'd be very leery about someone harping on you with multiple texts a day. You do what you need to keep yourself safe.

To me, setting expectations from others just leads to disappointment. I would suggest not doing that. If you don't expect anything, you won't be disappointed. I would only set goals for myself and my child when he was little... People need to set their own goals and intend to do their best to meet them with support and encouragement, of course.

Yup. Boundaries are precious once you realize you're allowed to have them. All good suggestions above. I've let people know I'm not available because of limited emotional resources, so don't count on me for support. And I mean it.
