Original 100+ year old wooden porch, old paint faded and peeled eons ago, contractor our daughter befriended at Home Depot painted it for more than the company that is doing the entire porch correctly, with indoor paint. No wood treatment or sanding, just sprayed. It started looking leprous when the paint began to peel horribly. The below picture shows the deck, but not the ceiling, box frame, soffit or fascia.

Having worked various aspects of Customer Service for nearly 40+ years, and especially working for AAA for 19+ years, I've seen people's attitudes change. Self-importance, privligism, and entitlement have gone full wildfire in today's society. Everyone wants drive-thru service or results, the virtue of patience has gone the way of the dodo and I've both seen and experienced first-hand the rudeness, Princess; I know what these poor folk have to deal with on a daily basis. After I knew I wasn't going to go back to work at that hell hole, I promised myself I would *never* be "that" customer, that I would treat someone doing something for me with the respect they deserve, even if they're cranky; they get that way from "those" customers and are all but brainwashed to expect it from every customer. A kind word or two can carry tons of appreciation from anyone in the service industry.
We've had various technicians work on the house for various 100-year old breaking down things. Getting the porch painted, for all intents and purposes, was more cosmetic than anything; it was our *choice* to make the improvement. We knew it was going to be a daunting task for any painter or carpenter, but she made it look so uncomplicated, took her time accordingly, and has so far done one hell of a wonderful job for us. What we had done before was to make the house more functional and safe, this is for us and we are going to give her a gift card when she completes the work.
Thank you for the positive feedback; I had a good feeling I was headed in the right direction, I just needed your help getting me to turn on the headlamps.
I agree with princess a gift card will make a difference. Appreciated
Definitely a well earned gift card🥰
I like that this is an arena for us to learn and ask for advice. This is a non-competitive place to have to inquire.
Where else could you get the feedback from a self-employed handyman regarding a tip's appropriateness?
Just my two cents...
she's finishing tomorrow, so that will be her good-bye and thank-you present!
