Seek community assets.
You need to see a therapist at least.

Will I be approved for disability benefits with depression and PTSD?

Approval for disability benefits depends on meeting specific criteria set by the Social Security Administration (SSA). You may be eligible if your conditions prevent you from working for at least a year or are expected to result in death.

To qualify for disability benefits with depression, you need to show at least five of these symptoms:

* Depressed mood
* Loss of interest in activities
* Changes in appetite or weight
* Sleep disturbances
* Psychomotor changes (agitation or slowed movements)
* Low energy
* Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
* Difficulty concentrating
* Thoughts of death

Additionally, you must meet one of these conditions:

* Two marked limitations or one extreme limitation in mental functioning (like understanding, social interaction, concentration, or managing daily life)
* A serious and persistent disorder documented for at least two years with ongoing treatment and limited ability to adapt to changes

The process can be lengthy and challenging. A MyDepressionTeam member shared: "I am currently fighting for disability, and they said it could take a year or longer."

You'll need comprehensive medical documentation showing how your conditions affect your ability to work, including doctor's notes, treatment records, and mental health evaluations. Consider working with a disability lawyer, social worker, or advocate to strengthen your application.

That's how I feel now that I just can't be around many people. I worked from 1998- 2018 perfect and now because I am up all night that I sleep all day that I just don't have the energy to do anything else. It's hard to see a doctor if you don't have a job.

I don't know how I got approved for both SSDI and VA Disability Compensation, I know SSDI denied me at first, I got an SSDI lawyer and we began gathering evidence for the appeal hearing. It never came.

The day my attorney called to see if I'd been contacted, I got the approval email and message. I called her back, told her the good news and that she was released from our agreement and she already knew that since I officially informed SSDI that I'd contracted legal counsel and they'd pay her anyway. I was perfectly cool with that, she'd earned every penny.

I know 70% of my VA Disability Rating is Major Depressive Disorder with Generalized Anxiety/Panic Attack, but I don't know what SSDI based my approval on.

Best advice is to keep chugging at it, find an attorney, pro bono possibly and see if they can get the gears going for you.

It's really all about your therapist telling them (Social Security) that you are, in fact, disabled. I don't know about PTSD but my bipolar was approved in 2011 and I had to retire then. Couldn't do the job anymore...
