Once again riding that hellborn see-saw and we both noticed the past couple of days that I may have been exhibiting an unsettling level of mania, likely brought on by drug interactions between the recently started Prozac and two of my other meds. Conventional wisdom says the initial side effects can subside after a couple of weeks, but I do not want to be that way for the Holidays. Yes, I was bitten by the Christmas bug and I'm a little excited, but Has anyone experienced mania while on Prozac… read more

If buproprion (Wellbutrin) is a mood stabilizer, I've been at the max dosage for a couple of months... makes me very curious indeed...

Can Bipolar II cause mania, and has anyone experienced mania while on Prozac combined with other medications?

Bipolar 2 disorder typically doesn't cause full manic episodes. Instead, people with bipolar 2 experience hypomania, which is a milder form of mania that's less intense and doesn't usually require medical attention. The key difference is that hypomanic episodes aren't severe enough to cause major problems in daily life or require hospitalization.

However, what you're describing about recently starting Prozac is important. Taking an antidepressant like Prozac without a mood stabilizer can actually trigger a manic episode. This is a known risk with antidepressants in people with bipolar disorder.

Given that you've noticed unsettling levels of what feels like mania since starting Prozac, especially combined with other medications, this is something you should discuss with your doctor right away. They can adjust your treatment plan to help avoid triggering these episodes, especially before the holidays when you want to feel your best.

Don't wait the full two weeks if the symptoms feel concerning to you. Your doctor can help determine if this is medication-related and make changes if needed.

heyyy! hellooo. medic here to spill the beans. soo. although bipolar 2 cannot cause full blown mania. mania/psychosis is not only something that is seen in bipolar people. important to remember.

fact" antidepressants can cause mania in bipolar individuals . its quite common in those who have bipolar 1. YET.

i was on dexamethasone. this summer . medrol. Last february. for physical reasons. not mental. am i bipolar ? no. or not diagnosed at least. but. on medrol i almost committed. and on dexamethasone I had what very closely resembled mania.

if youre a highly susceptible individual then mania/psychosis is still on the table. because it is medically induced. not your true brain chemistry. but a little more throwing off the balance. I think im talking too much. hope I helped a bit? hahah. whatever. I can't even bother to read wbat I wrote again so lets hope for the best.
