I shred all entries immediately after writing them.

you can always use basic encrypted writing for sensitive stuff or pictographs to replace words. Snakes, words that seem to be random with symbols, etc.

Yes, I used to journal but due to attention deficit, bipolar and other commitments, I have moved away from it. Instead, over time, I have written fairy tales and horror (curious mix I know) They help me laugh and vent feelings. It more the joy of creation. I'm leery of documenting feelings. I once read that you should never write anything unless it is expected that someone else will read it. Sage advice I'd say. But it basically just means police yourself. I wrote a formal journal once and was dissatisfied. That particular one was to try and figure out why I was having the feelings I was experiencing after the death of dear old dad. He was 88 but he was also the power center when I grew up. I was trying to analyze that, psychoanalytical things I'd learned, my feelings juxtaposed with bipolar and other areas of life to make sense of them. I had to write what I felt about family and others and write as I truly felt. Honesty to self is not the same thing others might take away, especially if it includes them. We might make a purging or catharsis and mix and match words or be cryptic to our own way of writing. Others may not see it that way. So I don't keep journals. Symbols can mean anything to anyone so there is value in finding private expression in art rather than overt journaling.
