I don't know or think I can answer this or give it justification because I don't remember who, what or how...but the next day, I knew. I do wish it had been under more romantic and consistent circumstances, but those were the cards I was dealt...

I was a freshman in college and religious. I was pressured by a girlfriend who was not of the same mindset and gave me a choice. I had to consult with a Chaplin. I consented in the end but it led to a depressive episode followed by hypo manic episode.

I think my religious self conceived notions created a standard that crippled my realistic outlook and has plagued me tj this day with a sort of guilt. It was twisted then and is now. Fear of a Jonathan Edwards Sinners in the hands of an angry god is not the way to live life, the Chaplin was good and asked his I perceived god. Angry and vengeful or loving and forgiving. I chose the latter but my mind wasn't so easily swayed. I confused every bipolar bad choice with being punished.

Human nature and all its natural expressions are mostly good insofar as sexuality that harms no one is concerned. As a psychological weapon, however and especially unjustifiable and vicious weapon, it's devestating. We're taught to fear and despise human nature until married then suddenly are told have a beautiful relationship. No training on how sex can be fun, expressive, bonding and fulfilling. Were bereft with puritanical blinders and that's a big problem with our nation.

Virginity? Well, why? Traditionally the bride was 'pure' for a transaction. 'Used goods' weren't wanted for heirs. It sounds ugly and it is, but there you have it for women at least, pure, chaste and ready for the merger of family assets and heirs. Men? Not sure since the double standard is Dow your oats then settle down. You ask what's the purpose...it's not piety.
