Suicide Wellness Check
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone had someone call the authorities on you for a suicide wellness check? If so, what happened? Did just a police officer show up or did a major scene happen with a bunch of lights and sirens?

I had my college campus security officers show up to my dorm room once, and that was scary enough. I can't imagine having actual police officers show up.

I've also gone to the emergency room as I was feeling very suicidal 3 years ago. After 10 seconds I regretted that decision as the triage nurse… read more

The first time I attempted, I od'd on pills. When the symptoms became obvious to my severely depressed Mom who couldn't get out of bed, I lay down beside her. She asked softly if I wanted her to call for an ambulance, and I softly said no. I'm surprised either of us lived to tell about it.

The last time was even weirder, but that's a story for another day.

People either can't or don't know how to respond correctly in this situation, especially because it is so peculiar to the individuals involved. *We* don't even know what we want or need at these times. So there's always going to be an under-reaction or an over-reaction, always. ❤️‍🩹

It's a cluster f***. As I mentioned in an earlier post, 4 years ago, I was severly depressed about losing a job and I needed to be admitted, but because I said no to those questions, I wasn't sick enough I guess....still upsets me to this day....they need to look beyond those damn questions...

Yes. When I go quiet or " off the radar". I have specific relations check on me. I've had two wellness checks on me in my life. What normally happens is an officer or two will make a "WELLNESS" check. Please factor inn these officers must look out for their well-being too, the majority of them are very kind, polite, and considerate. When they make their observation of you, they normally contact the person who requested the check. If anyone needs to seek help, I recommend they tell the officers. Officers get depressed to, and they do not like the crumbling and despair entering into the hearts of anyone. However, always request your paperwork and the officer's badge number. In reference unto Hospital protocol, it depends on the hospital. I've been in a hospital, and they tell you to "grow up". I go unto another one out of town and they exercise professionalism and human emphaty.

I have never had this experience. I am so sorry that you went through this. I know that it is difficult to stand up against depressive feelings. However please know that Jesus loves you and died on the cross for you!!
