I'm at the stage that I feel it's pointless making doctors appointments as it's never going to make me better and is a waste of time. This illness has been going on so long and my doctors had a really awkward system of making appointments which makes it worse. I hate talking on the phone which also doesn't help. Ive been battling chronic fatigue recently and could just sleep my life away. I'm not getting enough help from the mental health team, can only see them every three months. How do youโฆ read more
How do you keep battling? Well!...first of all get all of the meds you need. Research the meds for side-affects. Write down all of the side-affects or symptoms, and the feeling's you have when taking your meds. Join a support group, if you haven't already, go deep with that group and be honest with your feeling's and what's happening with you. Go for walks, if your able to. If you have any hobbies go for it! You see, you might already know this, but mental health personal and mental health support groups can only do so much. 80-85% is on US to maintenance ourselves to help ourselves to really work on ourselves ๐๐๐ easier said than done, I know. But it can be done. You do realize that mental health inactivity cause more problems, cause's our symptoms to get worse. So, don't look at your mental health as a battle, look at it like a stepping stone. Take one step a stone every day. Don't run, don't crawl, just take a strong deliberate well balanced and well planned step. MOST IMPORTANT!!!! DON'T BE HARD ON YOURSELF ๐ GIVE IT TIME!!!! You can do this.
Sometimes,.when the medical community lets you down you have to take things into your own hands. Do your own research, be your own advocate. I know you're tired, but you're going to have to do this or enlist the help of friends or family or your neighborhood librarian. You use any resource you can. Internet, libraries -public and University (you may not be able to check things out-but you can copy), health food stores, any kind of "guru" whose mind you can pick. Anyone who has been through this before and seen the other side. There are tons of article on chronic fatigue on the net. You just need to sort through them. I think once you know what you want to look for ask your local librarian to research for you..
idk where you live, Angie. Do you see a counselor? You can only see your psychiatrist every 3 months? Can you ask for appointments that are sooner, my doc now asks me when I want to come back. Counselors can help so much, idk what I would do without mine. I get you about the long illness, and it doesn't seem like I will ever get better, but I can at least be stable, is that what you're shooting for? Talk to the office personnel and definitely your doctor, tell them how useless your treatments seem to be. They need to know that, and hopefully will listen and be more what you need them to be. If it's your drugs, let your doc know, they can always change or up them. Complain, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Be upfront about what you need and want.
I hope this helps!
Hugs,
Mary

Hi Angie,
I do not believe at all that doctors, a mental health team, or life can ever really give me what I need, kid. Doctors and clinicians are simply performing a function and doing their jobs.
And My "job", as I see It, is to seek to try to make my and others' lives better- I try to to do that daily, but, yes, sometimes it gets very difficult, like it has gotten lately for me . .
Sendin' up my best prayers for ya, amiga, my fondest thoughts of ya to ya, and my most positive vibes to ya, kid . .
Samuelito . .
All the above advice is good. I know how overwhelming it all seems. So break it down into steps. Doing what you feel up to first. @A MyDepressionTeam Member was right . Because of the bad medical treatment youโre experiencing youโll have to be your own advocate. Find support here with us.
