Stand Up For Your Rights!
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Recently my work has put under safety who is on chronic meds. I am - major depression and tabs for Raynauds Disease. My work was informed 3 yrs ago that I suffer from major depression yet our Jnrs want to dig a hole for us. I gave the bitch shit today. This is so wrong guys. Stand up and let people know you are a depressive. By law they are not! Allowed to fire or discipline you. I am tired of this shit. She is on anti depressants herself.

I was recently let go and my boss was aware of my situation. They think giving me two weeks extra pay will fix it 🙄😭 what a way to knock a person further down then they already feel 😭

You need to update your ADA form to put down MDD as a form of disability otherwise they can screw you. She sounds like a real piece of work

I have seen that some employers take it well and colleagues are supportive, this is my case, i know of other people with depression who have informed their employer and things went bad, they were constantly being judge. Normal frustration was questioned "is this your depression" Each person needs to decide for themselves. Illness does not make you untouable. I live is S.A. being disrespectful or insubordante requires discipline for anyone. Having an episode and smacking your boss is a dismissable offence. Then there is always ill capacity due to ill health. If you are not performing upto par and its because of your depression your employer has the right to ask you to get a medical certificate from your doctor explaining your ability to perform. If you get a clean bill of health you are disciplined. if your doctor states that you are currenty unable to work properly but will be in two weeks or something like that they will most likely give you lee way. If you are never going to be capable of doing your job properly they have the right to hold a hearing for incapacity due to ill health. Being sick doesnt give you free reign
