I am on ECT maintenance and receive treatments once a month. This had been going on for about two years. I had an initial series of treatments and then moved on to where I am now. ECT really helped me and I will continue with my treatments. There were side effects for me. I have a some memory loss and a few other side effects. Like I said I will continue and it has really helped it did take some time for me though it wasn't overnight for me. I can answer any questions you have or share more of my experience.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I can't tell you how disappointed I am for you. I hope you have found other ways to cope. Our lives should not be such torturous journeys.
I had ECTs when my depression became very bad in 2000. I had 12 bilateral treatments. My mother stayed with me at the time so I didn't have to stay in the hospital. At the time I felt like I was aware of what was happening, but the memories didn't stick. I lost about a year of my memories. Memory loss is common, but it's not usually as bad as mine is. For me the ECTs didn't help, and my depression has now been deemed 'treatment resistant.'
I think my pdoc (shrink) is against ECT. But he didn't see the branch I had picked out about a month ago after 20 years of failed antidepressents.
I am thinking that must be something I will have to try because nothing else seems to do much good. But I don't have anyone who will help me....
