Adderall

Adderall

I was at my psychiatrist today, he wasn't very impressed wen I asked him will Adderall work, went on his computer & said they are for epilepsy. He's not heard of it. X

All kinds of meds can be used off-label if your GP or therapist thinks they're worth a try. When I was on an anti-fungal medication that conflicted with venlafaxine, my psychiatrist prescribed an off-label drug (can't remember what it was called) because she thought it might help compensate for the reduction in my antidepressant, and it certainly helped until I could go back on my full dose. My GP also tried a couple of anti-psychotics (seroquel and abilify) that weren't so successful, but at least he was trying. Most GPs haven't the first notion what to prescribe for severe depression, so you have to educate yourself, and then you sometimes have to argue with him, and THEN you sometimes have to get a new GP. But you should never believe one who says you're out of options. He's the one who's out of options -- run out of knowledge or imagination. A good practitioner -- GP or psychiatrist -- never gives up. And neither should you. You are loved -- all of you -- and you're all an important part of someone's community. I don't know what I would do without you guys.

Well, I don't think it's for epilepsy unless that's an off label use. I take Adderall because I have trouble staying awake. I'm not sure I remember your condition or if it would help you. But, your right, your psychiatrist doesn't know it. How embarrassing for him. Can you switch Drs?

Awesome for you getting in front of the psych, and having suggestions and questions. Well done. There is no "right" fix I think. There are too many unknowns and I think we just need to keep trying new meds until we hit the right one. Again, congrads. What's the next step?
