How Do I Find People Who Are Like Me ... I've Tried The Filters, Locations,etc...
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

With 50000+ members worldwide of different age ranges and diagnoses, it is hard to find people "like me". I'm working through members "stories" and that seems to be the way I feel I can connect with people's history and the "sense of the person" but that is a long job to try and build my team.

Is there an approach I'm missing ? is there something that the MyDepressionTeam site developers can do to help - a seach across stories perhaps, where 'we' add in a search term that we are interested… read more

Hi Volpino

So I have been reading a few of your posts and can relate to what you are going through. A couple of questions. Does your family know about your depression and do they understand what it is. I believe you are married so how does your wife help? Anyhow so am going to post an answer I gave someone else and then I would like you to go and read my bio which has my story about depression. I also have listed several habits that I use regularly to help me. Here is the post and let's talk some more.

Hi. Yes we are very good at helping others and putting ourselves last or not at all. The problem is we do not value what we do for others, we think it's just what we do. You are going to need some positive thinking and self talk so that you start to value yourself. A good analogy is when fly you know how they say put your oxygen mask on first before helping others, that's what you have to do. There's only so much you can do before resentments start to set in and then you'll look around and there will be nobody there for you. Take Care.

Hi @A MyDepressionTeam Member - thank you for taking time to provide such a considered answer and your wisdome from your previous encounters - I've taken a quick look at your story too - I need to give that more than 30 seconds to do it the justice it deserves.

Yes, I have shared with my family, but my parents have passed on and I couldn't have talked to them anyway, they were the problem - they themselves had their problems and would have become distressed that they had contributed to my situation.

I've seen your recommendations too and I do about half of those so there is more I can help myself with, too. I am learning to put myself first and I am noticing the change around me and I sense some level of greater isolation too - at the moment and that is a hard place to be.

I'll come back again after I've digested your bio... and thanks once more.
