A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm about to start Zoloft but am horrified to read in the leaflet that it can cause swollen glands,,heart attacks, inflammation of windpipe.....help!!!!!??And loss of erection and ejaculation failure.I'm too scared to take it.I've been on effexor for fifteen years.

I was only on Zoloft for a few days, when I was initially hospitalized for my depression. It made me sleep all day, and when I was awake, my depression wasn't any better. I've been on 40mg/Prozac ever since.

Unfortunately, most anti-depressants will affect libido, to my understanding. As I said above, I've been on Prozac since shortly after my depression was diagnosed in 1996. In terms of libido, I went from being your typical young adult to having almost *no* interest whatsoever. Fortunately, I had/have a *very* understanding boyfriend, and he was willing to go along with whatever I wanted/didn't want. That (not being pressured) helped more than anything. Eventually, my body adjusted to the Prozac, and my libido came back, although not as strong as before.

In 2010, my boyfriend and I went through some stuff I can only call "HELL," and he developed depression. After various medication trials, he was eventually put on the same dose of Prozac as I, and his libido crashed as a result. Unfortunately, we're still going through that same HELL to some extent, and neither of us has much libido anymore. We have a relationship *most* people would probably term "just friends" these days, but *I* know the love is still there. Most relationships would not have survived everything we've been through, and despite popular theory, sex is NOT what makes a relationship.

Be careful coming / weaning off the Effexor... Do it very gradually.

I was omn it for a couple of months and it didn't seem to help at all. Went to Latuda then. So far so good.

I on this tablets on and off though my years of depression.
I married a lovely understanding man . Who would like a hug and a kiss and what we called a snuggle up in bed. Nothing more . Just a cuddle in bed . I feel so bad that we not got a sex life . But all my husband says I love you and that all what matters. X
