Lexapro
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been taken Escitalopram for 9 days now, I have stopped the crying and the general feeling of hopelessness has waned but I have absolutely no motivation or desire to participate in life and my anxiety has been pretty bad - is it normal for some parts of the depression to get worse before it gets better?

I am on the same medication. Lack of motivation from what I understand is part of the depression. Give it some time, but of course your doctor can help alleviate your. concerns.

You should always try to give a new medication 6 weeks to make full effect. After that if you're not feeling better, go back to your doctor.

You may need to have the doctor adjust your meds. It does get worse before it gets better for some of us. Talk to your doctor

Hey, I felt the exact same way on lexapro, but I didn't want to go off of it because it too the "blues away" but I needed something to give me some "spark." So I asked the doctor if she could add wellbutrin, so now I'm on Wellbutrin and lexapro combination and it is the only combo that has ever worked for me

Hi, ive just changed to lexapro, been on it for about 5weeks. It stopped me being so emotional and dont feel AS worthless, but still feel low a lot of the time. But i feel my anxiety is a little worse. My psychiatrist told me that the tablets may take about 3-4 weeks to kick in and for my body to get used to it. Im still getting unwanted side effects too, Im thinking that these tablets aren't helping me, but that might just be me being negative.
Maybe wait a little while longer to see if you feel better, if not, go back to your doctor and let them know how your feeling.

Hope your feeling better soon
