Sometimes I wish I lived in America. In England 95% of the population can not afford private treatment. We rely on the NHS, and it would be very rare if not impossible to find a doctor who would agree to do genetic testing. 😕

With BPD, our brains don't respond normally to medications like other people do. It's what makes it harder to treat. Combinations are great things to try and sometimes it's the off-label medications that work. For example, I take Topamax for my mood. It's off label to be used as a mood stabilizer but it has been one of the only things that has ever worked for me. The next medication I'm about to try is the same situation, off label use for depression. So my recommendation is do some research and go to your doctor with suggestions and research. Another option you can look into (not sure if it's available in England) is genetic testing. This is one thing that has helped me SOOOO much. It tells me medications to avoid and which ones might be okay. It revealed a lot about my responses to anti-depressants as well.

Borderline Personality Disorder is frequently treated with Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) . It works best in a group situation but you can buy books and workbooks on it. The workbook I use is "Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life" it's by Scott E Spradlin, MA.
